The Charlotte E. Ray Award honors legal professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement and a strong commitment to advancing women in the legal profession. Named for Charlotte E. Ray, the first Black woman lawyer in the U.S., the award recognizes her trailblazing legacy as a Howard Law graduate who opened her own commercial practice and championed a legal field that draws on the full breadth of talent. Her story continues to inspire progress toward a more equal profession today.
