Ted W. Lieu joined UBS PaineWebber as a corporate vice president and associate general counsel in the litigation department. Mr. Lieu had been a litigator at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP. Before entering private practice, Mr. Lieu served active-duty in the United States Air Force as a JAG, and is currently a major in the Air Force Reserves. He is also a councilman in the city of Torrance, the fourth-largest city in Los Angeles County. Mr. Lieu graduated from Stanford University in 1991 with a B.S. and a B.A. In 1994, he graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review. He then clerked for Judge Thomas Tang on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Lieu was one of twenty-five attorneys selected nationwide by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association to receive the “Best Lawyers Under 40” Award. He has had op-eds published in several newspapers, including The Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, and San Jose Mercury News. His wife, Betty Chim-Lieu, is a deputy attorney general for the California Department of Justice.
