Sebastian Kurian is a Corporate Counsel at Google focusing primarily on energy infrastructure and supply transactions, including maintaining Google’s 100% renewable energy goal and pursuing its ambitious, new initiative to power its data centers on a 24/7 basis with carbon-free energy.  At Google, Sebastian has closed renewable energy deals across four continents. Prior to joining Google in 2018, Sebastian was a Corporate Counsel at Amazon where he was the lead global utilities lawyer for Amazon Web Services and the former Assistant General Counsel of Clark Construction.  Sebastian began his legal career as a commercial real estate associate at Miles & Stockbridge. A native of Baltimore, Sebastian received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania with honors and his JD from the University of Maryland with honors.

Sebastian was a recipient of the Miles & Stockbridge Pro-Bono Advocate Award and his pro bono work with Wayfind’s Microenterprise Legal Clinic has been featured in Corporate Counsel magazine. His diversity efforts include assisting with the Legal Summer Institute – Google’s summer internship program for underrepresented law school students, and serving as a mentor for Google’s Sage Guru Program – a career development coaching program targeted to junior minority Googlers.

Sebastian is a regular speaker on energy and law topics.  He was a panelist at the 2018 Association of Corporate Counsel Annual Conference and the 2019 Baker McKenzie/Bloomberg New Energy Finance Global Renewable Energy Conference. He has also been a guest lecturer at Berkeley Law School’s Renewable Energy Law and Policy course.
