Marie Ma is Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Gap Inc., where she leads the Corporate & Finance Law, Corporate Secretary’s Office, Global Equity Administration and Legal Operations teams, reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer. She provides legal advice on a wide range of corporate, securities, finance, governance, compliance, transactional and nonprofit issues. She also sits on the Gap Inc. Political Action Committee. Marie leads Gap Inc.’s Legal Diversity Committee, whose mission is to help drive increased diversity among legal leadership across the profession through recruiting and hiring practices, engagement with its law firm providers, and partnership with key diversity organizations like Minority Corporate Counsel Association, Diversity Lab, and the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD). Marie is a 2018 LCLD Fellow. She serves on the University of San Francisco School of Law’s Board of Governors and on the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area’s (AABA) Law Foundation Board. She previously served on the AABA Board and as co-chair of its In-House Lawyers Committee. She served on the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Justice and Diversity Center Board of Directors, and as Chair of its Mock Trial Committee. In 2013, Marie was named a Rising Star by Minority Corporate Counsel Association. She received her B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles and her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
