Magdalena Oropeza graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Latin American and Latino/a Studies & Criminology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. As the daughter of undocumented Mexican immigrants, she was the first in her family to graduate from high school, college, and to attend law school. Before law school, Ms. Oropeza was a Ronald H. Brown Law School Prep Program Intern at Paul Hastings LLP in New York City. She has also served as a student leader in her undergraduate institution’s first student-led relief brigade to Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. Ms. Oropeza is currently a first-year law student at Columbia Law School, where she is part of the Specialized Latino/a Law Students Association Moot Court. Ms. Oropeza continues to mentor and work with a diverse group of aspiring law students to support domestic violence shelters in Puerto Rico. She hopes to pursue a career in litigation.
