Kent K. Matsumoto recently joined the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) as senior director of intellectual property.
Mr. Matsumoto will serve as PhRMA’s point person on all intellectual property legislative and strategic initiatives, leading its advocacy efforts.
Prior to joining PhRMA, Mr. Matsumoto was division counsel at Baltimore-based Alpharma’s U.S. pharmaceuticals division, and general counsel at Columbia-based TSI TelSys. He was also associated with two Baltimore-based law firms: Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, and Ober, Kaler, Grimes & Shriver.
Mr. Matsumoto attended the American School in Japan from 1969 through 1977. He graduated with high distinction from the University of Virginia in 1982 with a B.A. in foreign affairs, and earned a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1985.
He is a board member of the American Red Cross, Central Maryland chapter and president-elect of the American Corporate Counsel Association, Baltimore chapter. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. Court of International Trade, and the Maryland Court of Appeals.
