Jonelle Saunders is Associate Product Counsel at Google Health where she counsels on a mixed portfolio of health-related projects, including providing regulatory guidance, and advising product, research and business development teams dedicated to using technology to help advance human health. In this role, Jonelle advises teams from the initial stages of product development through launch and commercialization on laws and regulations related to the development and commercialization of health technologies, including data privacy, product liability, healthcare fraud and abuse. Jonelle is also responsible for reviewing and structuring agreements with potential partners in compliance with applicable law.

Prior to joining Google, Jonelle was an Associate on the healthcare and government investigation teams at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. Jonelle advises clients on internal investigations, regulatory enforcement, compliance strategy and healthcare regulatory counseling (Anti-Kickback Statutes, False Claims Act, Privacy, Transparency Reporting). Jonelle has experience in investigations before the US Department of Justice, the HHS Office of Inspector General, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the Office of the Comptroller of Currency. Before joining Morgan Lewis, Jonelle was Associate Counsel at JPMorgan Chase focusing on litigation, government relations, government investigations, and regulatory enforcement. Jonelle has co-authored more than a dozen publications concerning various developments in the healthcare industry and hosted several webinars on digital health and healthcare compliance.

In addition to her legal experience, Jonelle has attained a Masters Degrees focused in Bioethics (MBE) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Policy and Management (MS) from Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College. While at Carnegie Mellon, Jonelle was a Science and Humanities Scholar and completed a joint bachelors and masters degree program in four years. In her time at Carnegie Mellon, Jonelle partnered with UPMC’s Children’s Hospital to create an interactive injury prevention program for Children with Special Health Care Needs in conjunction with the Children’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Jonelle is committed to serving her community and serves as an Associate Trustee for the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. Jonelle has accumulated hundreds of pro bono hours with organizations focusing on access to healthcare, civil rights, voter suppression, domestic violence, and immigration. Additionally, Jonelle is a Board Member and Program Director for the Rising Leaders mentoring program at Capital City Middle School where she manages and trains mentors for individualized mentoring of middle school students and serves as primary liaison between the Executive Board and school leadership.

Jonelle is originally from New York but currently resides in Washington, DC. In her spare time, Jonelle enjoys long distance running, creating content for her food blog, and spending time with her book club.
