Debra A. Valentine has been appointed vice president, secretary and associate general counsel of United Technologies Corporation (UTC). Valentine has specialized in antitrust and international competition issues for more than a decade at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and in private practice.

Prior to joining UTC, she practiced at O’Melveny & Myers for 13 years, departing in 1995 after a decade to serve at the FTC, then rejoining the firm in 2001. While at the FTC, Valentine served as deputy director for policy planning, as assistant director for international antitrust, and then as the commission’s first female general counsel.

In the latter role, she was involved in all major merger investigations and enforcement actions during the period, including AOL-Time Warner, Exxon-Mobil, Boeing- McDonnell Douglas and others.

Valentine earned her juris doctorate from Yale University and a bachelor of arts degree from Princeton University.
