Position: Legal Operations Manager
Location: Columbus, Ohio

Description: The Legal Operations Manager will administer and oversee the general operations with a specific focus on technology and process administration for the Office of the General Counsel.  This role will further support various special projects across the holistic legal department.  The Legal Operations Manager will interface with legal, law firms, vendors and business partners at all levels support of domestic and international business initiatives.

  • Act as administrator and liaison for legal organizational systems such matter/ebilling, document management and reporting/business intelligence
  • Provide timely and relevant reporting on various matters, vendors and invoices
  • Troubleshoot matter management and/or e-billing software issues
  • Primary technical contact with vendors to manage software updates, upgrades, and best practice changes
  • Create and maintain documentation for core department processes, procedures and workflows
  • Provide technical support to legal employees for legal specific applications
  • Administrator of vendors, timekeepers, and discount agreements in legal matter management system
  • Act as primary operations contact for employee on and off boarding
  • Recommend and implement process or systemic improvements to track and report on legal matters
  • Oversee the legal department e-billing and invoicing process and liaise between invoice approvers, vendors, firms and accounts payable to process and pay invoices in a compliant and timely fashion
  • Draft and present training courses within the legal department for other legal and/or business clients on various topics such as invoicing, document management, matter or contract management, etc.
  • Develop matter timetables to track milestones, deliverables and dependencies
  • Strive to standardize processes across the legal department
  • Facilitate quarterly legal department support staff meeting
  • Assemble and direct project teams to support in-house counsel with special projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate with business and legal partners at all levels
  • Extremely organized, thorough and accurate with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work streams to meet critical, short-term deadlines
  • Ability to take independent and decisive action while still exercising good judgment
  • Cross-functional team player with strong relationship-building skills
  • Advocate in supporting and enhancing change
  • Capable of identifying, recommending and implementing continuous and/or process improvements
  • Positive attitude with desire and initiative to develop and take on additional responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or legal studies is preferred
  • 8-10 years project manager or paralegal experience within a law firm and/or in-house legal team preferred
  • Demonstrated project management experience within a legal environment
  • Demonstrated experience in managing matter management and document management software; implementation experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Technical background with general understanding of software and databases is preferred
