Position: Junior Counsel

Description: The East Coast Energy Group (ECEG) (http://ecenergygroup.com/) is seeking a full-time Junior Counsel, who will assist the General Counsel in providing legal, compliance, and regulatory support for ECEG companies including but not limited to East Coast Power & Gas, LLC (an energy service company (ESCO) supplying electricity and natural gas in New York); East Coast Power & Gas of New Jersey, LLC (an ESCO subsidiary of East Coast Power & Gas, LLC active in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland); East Coast Environmental Services of NY Inc. (fuel oil storage tank cleaning and servicing); East Coast Mechanical Contracting Corp. (boiler installation, maintenance, and repair); East Coast Petroleum, Inc. (heating oil retail sales); and Industrial Steam Boiler Corporation (steam boiler manufacturer). The Junior Counsel will report directly to the General Counsel and assist with contractual negotiations (e.g., confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements, brokerage agreements, service vendor agreements, energy commodities trading contracts, construction service agreements), labor and employment issues, corporate governance, litigation support, legal research, governmental and regulatory compliance, ESCO advocacy efforts, and “know your customer” (KYC) compliance.

Qualifications: Quality verbal communication, strong drafting skills (both in a legal and retail customer-facing context), and attention to details are essential. A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of legal practice experience is preferred, as are the following skills:

  • Contract drafting and negotiations;
  • Corporate governance document drafting and maintenance;
  • Interpersonal skills, particularly with respect to internal clients and third-party customers;
  • Familiarity with labor and employment issues;
  • Legal research, including statutory and regulatory analysis;
  • Litigation;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Professional (or its equivalent), and Workshare Comparison (or its equivalent); and
  • Strong self-driven initiative to identify gaps within current legal and compliance processes and propose efficient solutions.

The candidate must have a valid license to practice law in the State of New York and must be authorized to work in the United States.

This position will be full-time and located at ECEG’s primary office in the Bronx, NY, with an immediate start date. A competitive benefits package will be available with this position, but without any relocation expenses.
