Description: Are you interested in working on novel legal issues at the forefront of cloud computing for one of the largest cloud computing companies in the world? If so, come join the Azure Global legal team in Microsoft’s Cloud + Artificial Intelligence (C+AI) legal group.

Our team provides front-line legal support for Azure Global, the engineering group responsible for Azure’s global expansion and for meeting the compliance, data protection, reliability, and product functionality needs of the world’s largest customers in every major industry. This position will focus on support for Azure’s global expansion and, in particular, meeting the needs of global government customers.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Legal support for the engineering groups that own Azure global expansion strategy, including the development of cloud offerings for global government customers
  • Drafting and negotiating multi-party agreements for engineering-led deals to expand Azure into new global markets
  • Developing template agreements and guidance for use by others in the legal department doing similar work
  • Counseling and advising clients on a wide variety of complex and developing cloud-related legal, regulatory, and data protection issues
  • Collaborating closely with legal department colleagues, internal stakeholders and subject matter experts around the globe in support of the above
  • Provide legal support for customer engagements, including meeting with customers during executive briefings

Qualifications:

We are looking for an experienced attorney who meets the following requirements:

  • JD (or equivalent) and license to practice law in the US
  • 5-9+ years as a practicing attorney
  • Background in technology, intellectual property, and/or commercial transactions
  • Experience counseling and working with engineering or other non-legal clients
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills and attention to detail
  • Desire and ability to work as part of a team and with diverse groups and cultures
  • The successful candidate must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Law firm experience or in-house experience at a large company is a plus
  • Willingness to be available for calls in other time zones outside of local business hours

  • Flexible and analytical thinker able to quickly and accurately identify legal issues in a complex environment and to develop solutions by exercising confident judgment in ambiguous situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and prioritize workflow with minimal supervision
  • Strong results orientation and customer focus

Some travel (less than 25%) is required.
