Description: The Associate General Counsel serves as a member of the General Counsel’s Office and provides risk management, ethics and compliance advice and guidance to the firm’s attorneys and staff. The Associate General Counsel also provides legal and strategic advice to the firm on a variety of matters, including litigation, the Rules of Professional Conduct, contracts, federal and state regulatory requirements, HIPAA, data/privacy and security, and employment law to ensure operation within the scope established by law. We are not currently accepting resumes from search firms for this position at this time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Interact with firm attorneys and staff regularly to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, including the Rules of Professional Conduct. Work closely with the General Counsel and others in the Office of General Counsel to promote ethics and regulatory compliance within the firm.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda and documents. Handle all aspects of discovery as needed, including responding to subpoenas, propounding and responding to discovery, and taking and defending depositions.
  • Represent and defend the firm in disputes.
  • Manage litigation against the firm and firm attorneys; supervise and collaborate with outside counsel; negotiate and oversee settlements. Review pleadings and participate in litigation as needed.
  • Conduct investigations, including employment-related investigations.
  • Participate in firm-wide training and presentations to attorneys and staff regarding risk management issues, legal policies and procedures, and best practices.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Advise concerning latest legal developments concerning ethical rules applicable to attorneys, including the Rules of Professional Conduct and applicable ethics opinions.
  • Interact with conflicts team to resolve conflicts issues; assist with the preparation of waiver letters and documents; advise concerning laws and ethics opinions related to conflicts.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with special projects requested by the General Counsel, including projects related to conflicts, litigation, and business intake.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks requested by the firm-wide Managing Partner, the General Counsel, or other members of Senior Management.

Qualifications:

Education:        

  • Juris Doctor degree is required.
  • License to practice law in the resident jurisdiction is required.

Experience:

  • Eight to ten years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, in-house position, or government.
  • Familiarity with professional liability rules, ethics opinions, and Rules of Professional Conduct a plus.
  • Litigation experience, including responding to discovery requests and handling litigation, is preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Admission to practice law in at least one state where a Fox Rothschild LLP is located.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle matters related to many different issues and areas of the law. Ability to learn a new area of the law, depending on the issues confronted.
  • Comfortable speaking in person and on the phone with attorneys and staff concerning matters.
  • Effective organizational skills to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent research skills and demonstration of sound judgement based on proven experiences.
  • Strong, hands-on work ethic with willingness to assume heavy workload to meet timing and project needs.
  • High level of integrity and ethics.
  • Highly collaborative, inclusive, and people-oriented.
