This is the 14th edition of our annual survey since we launched the initiative in 2004 to support the Chief Legal Officers’ Call to Action to increase diversity in our profession (Read the article). We worked closely with a general counsel advisory group to draft questions that will improve diversity and measure progress in our profession.

MCCA and Vault have also developed a database of historical results to make it easier for in-house counsel to track diversity within a particular firm. Currently, this database includes nine years of qualitative and quantitative data for a majority of the AmLaw 200 firms as well as dozens of smaller firms.

Whether you are a firm who has participated in our survey or a client who wants to assess the progress your outside counsel are making, our database can provide that information in minutes and it is gratis. You will find the Law Firm Diversity Database at

Of course, you also will receive our comprehensive report in the fall, which will detail this year’s survey results and the progress made over the last decade.

The survey is conducted online. If your firm has not already received an invitation to participate, please contact You will receive an email with the firm’s password and a link to complete the survey. The survey will close at 11pm EDT on Friday, May 5, 2017. Please note that there is no fee to participate.

If you would like to review the survey questions, you may download a Word version of the survey, but please keep in mind the official survey needs to be completed online. Click HERE to download the 2017 Vault/MCCA Diversity Survey questionnaire.
