MCCA Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program 2010

The MCCA Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. ("LMJ") Scholarship Program is open to “all” students who have been accepted into law school to start in the fall of 2010. Only students enrolled in a full-time, day program with an anticipated graduation date in Spring 2013 are eligible to apply. The goal of the program is to promote academic excellence and diversity in law schools by awarding newly accepted law students from disadvantaged backgrounds with scholarships to help defray their education expenses.

LMJ Fellowships will provide students with $10,000 a year for three years. Other exciting components of the LMJ Scholarship Program include providing prominent members of the legal community as mentors, and MCCA's support in locating first-year, summer legal employment at a leading corporate law department. As a result, LMJ Fellows will make excellent candidates for future employment, and will be well equipped to meet the high expectations of the practicing legal community. In addition, several students (LMJ Scholars) will receive a one-time award of $10,000 to assist with their first-year expenses.

MCCA has retained the services of the United Negro College Fund ("UNCF") to assist with the promotion and administration of the program. UNCF will collect the application materials. Applications will be available online January 8, 2010. MCCA and UNCF will then score the completed applications, and provide a list of the top forty candidates to the LMJ Scholarship Selection Committee to choose the winners. Once the fellowships are awarded, the program requires each recipient to maintain a "B" average each year.  LMJ Fellows must provide regular reports to MCCA and UNCF regarding their continued eligibility for the program.  To apply online visit http://www.uncf.org/forstudents/scholarDetailSGA.asp?id=439.
