LMJ Scholarship Program

In 2004, the Minority Corporate Counsel Association established the Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr., Scholarship program (“LMJ Scholarship”). The LMJ Scholarship program seeks to nurture the academic and professional careers of outstanding law students and advancing the diversity pipeline to the legal profession.

The LMJ Scholarship is open to students who have been accepted to an ABA accredited law school for a full-time Juris Doctorate degree. The scholarship is available to diverse individuals who: have overcome obstacles, are outstanding and promising scholars, have an interest in corporate law, and possess a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The LMJ Scholarship is a national program that annually grants scholarships of $10,000 to students entering their first year of law school. Eligibility requirements and awards are at the sole discretion of MCCA and are not guaranteed.  

To be eligible an applicant must show proof of his/her acceptance into an ABA-accredited U.S. law school on or before the application deadline (to start in fall of the same year).  Applicant must have an interest in corporate law, including an interest in working in a corporate law department and/or law firm.  Applicant must have an interest in diversity.  Applicant must be financially disadvantaged and have completed the FAFSA and provide additional documents as requested.  Applicant must demonstrate community service and leadership qualities.  Applicant must have earned an undergraduate cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher.  Applicant must be enrolled in law school on a FULL-TIME basis in the fall 2016.  LLM and/or part-time students are ineligible.

All applications must be submitted online via the LMJ Scholarship Application Portal, and must include the following uploaded application materials:

  • Provide undergraduate transcript(s) (and graduate transcripts) as applicable
  • Fill out a resume page
  • Provision of contact information for two (2) recommenders
  • Response to a two (2)-part essay question
