Position: Executive Director

Description:  The Executive Director is the chief operating executive of the corporation responsible for the overall administration, supervision of work, programmatic design and implementation.  This individual provides direction and leadership of the Association, and serves as a spokesperson as directed by the Board of Governors.  The Executive Director shall maintain relationships with other organizations, such corporate partners, bar associations and governmental entities.

Specified Responsibilities:

The Executive Director of the National Bar Association shall be charged with the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the management and general administration of the NBA, in consultation with the President, and under the direction of the Executive Committee and the Board of Governors.
  • Executive contracts, agreements and commitments for and on behalf of the Association in accordance with any standing resolutions and policies, or where the express approval of the Board of Governors or Executive Committee of the Association is required.
  • Serving as a spokesperson and ambassador for the Association externally.
  • Delivering periodic reporting to the Board of Governors, Executive Committee and the President regarding the condition and operations of the Association.
  • Serving as principal fundraiser of the Association through successful solicitation of grants, partnerships, and other revenue generating initiatives.
  • Recruiting, retaining and managing skilled and experienced personnel and supervising their overall professional development and performance, in consultation with the Board of Governors.
  • Working with all Association committees, providing proper liaison and staff support, and assisting them in submitting proposals to the Executive Committee or the Board of Governors.
  • Working with all Association chapters to maintain good working communications with the Association.
  • Planning and conducting the Annual Meeting and such other conference as established by the Association with the designated committees.
  • Ensuring the implementation and maintenance of financial, operational and internal governance controls including tax, accounting, creditworthiness and audit processes with ultimate accountability for propriety and transparency of the books and records of the Association.
  • Attending meetings for the advancement of the Association at the request of the President.
  • Performing such other functions that are necessary for the improvement and advancement of the Association as authorized and directed by the President, the Board of Governors or the Executive Committee.
  • Overseeing the management operations and general administration of the National Bar Institute (NBI).

Job Description- Senior Counsel- Employment Litigation

Senior Counsel is an experienced attorney that is highly competent in his/her area of practice.  He/She should have strong leadership skills, to motivate and direct individuals.  He/She must have strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate and interact with individuals on different levels both internal and external to the Legal Department. Directly manages matter work and oversees outside counsel. Six plus years of experience as a practicing employment attorney preferred.  Must have strong working knowledge of federal, state and city employment laws and regulations and proven ability to capably advise, counsel and train clients on the same.  The candidate must also have strong negotiation and employment litigation experience as well as experience in handling charges of discrimination filed with federal, state and city human rights commissions.  The candidate must have the demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and drive them to conclusion in a timely manner.  Also, the candidate must have deep experience drafting and negotiating employment and separation agreements, including a working knowledge of Section 409A of the Internal Revenue Code.
