MCCA also presented the Thomas L. Sager Award to the law firms of Vinson & Elkins and Abbott, Simses & Kuckler. The Thomas L. Sager Award is named in honor of MCCA’s Chairman of the Board, who serves as DuPont Company’s Vice President and Assistant General Counsel. The award is given to law firms that demonstrate a sustained commitment to improving the hiring, retention, and promotion of minority attorneys.
Prior to dinner, the award recipients were featured in an MCCA-hosted Diversity Dialogue, a panel discussion part of an organization-wide professional development series. These discussions provide dinner attendees with the opportunity to have a direct exchange with those organizations that have already achieved high levels of success in establishing and promoting diversity. Larry Tu, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Dell, Inc., served as the moderator of the panel. Other panel participants included Lawrence Abbott, Managing Director of Abbott, Simses & Kuchler; Joe Dilg, Managing Partner of Vinson & Elkins; Robert D. Sloan, Executive Vice President, Secretary, and General Counsel of Entergy Services, Inc.; and Rick Wittenbraker, General Counsel of Waste Management. During this dialogue, dinner attendees received information addressing the best practices for promoting and ensuring diversity, as well as news on the successful diversity initiatives implemented in their local areas. Attendees also received practical information that organization representatives can use to implement change in their respective businesses.
