Position: Part-Time Lecturer

Description: Rutgers Law School and the Rutgers Center for Corporate Law and Governance are seeking a part-time (20-25 hours/week) Lecturer to help create and operate a new inter-disciplinary Entrepreneurship Clinic, in partnership with the Rutgers Business School and the Rutgers School of Public Affairs and Administration. The Clinic will be four credits, and offered primarily to evening students. It will operate between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. weekday evenings. The Lecturer will be responsible (along with Professor Douglas S. Eakeley, the Co-Director of the Rutgers Center for Corporate Law and Governance) for designing the curriculum, offering a weekly two-hour seminar, sourcing/intaking appropriate clients/projects, supervising approximately eight students per semester on Clinic cases/projects, and coordinating with the Business School and SPAA. Salary: $40,000 (without benefits). The Lecturer will report to Professor Eakeley.

Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Candidates for the position must be licensed attorneys in New Jersey. The ideal candidate will have at least 5-10 years of experience in transactional law, including representation of entrepreneurial for-profit and nonprofit start-up organizations. This should include experience in pre-venture activities; entity selection; negotiating, drafting and reviewing agreements; management and transparency-in-governance issues; intellectual property; ongoing entrepreneurial and business activities; employee management issues; particular issues relevant to nonprofits; community relations issues. Teaching experience and/or law clinic experience, as well as experience training and supervising more junior attorneys, are also desirable.

Position: Director of Education and Research/Senior Counsel

Description: Manages and supports several key legal needs of the association along with the outside general counsel and corporate secretary.  Assists the development of successful CLE programs, professional development fora, best practices for law firms and corporate legal departments in implementing diversity and inclusion initiatives.  Directs and/or drafts research including analysis of survey results. 

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the President & CEO. 

  1. Provide legal counsel and support to the association for matters of trademarks and copyrights, insurance policies, basic contracts, regulatory filings, document retention policy, and as requested by the President and CEO.
  2. Support the strategic development of CLE program topics and training for all educational conferences, lending legal expertise in support of preparation of program descriptions and strategic selection of appropriate speakers.
  3. Manage all of MCCA’s research portfolio, including drafting the initial analysis of the data collected and collaborating with experts in the relevant field.
  4. Assist and/or guide the development and implementation of corporate and law firm best practices.
  5. Oversee the development of substantive content offered by MCCA as part of its online professional development resources. Also, oversee marketing and promotion of such resources, establishment, and review of metrics, seeking stakeholder feedback, as appropriate, to promote continuous improvement and enhanced value for users in collaboration with Manager of Marketing and Communications and Vice President of Membership and Development.
  6. Serve as primary liaison in the administration of the application process for MCCA’s Lloyd M. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Program, handle inquiries about the scholarship program from internal or external sources, support the processing of the scholarship payments, oversee preparation/update of online content about scholarships whether contained on MCCA’s website or others’ and provide primary staff support to Scholarship Selection Committee.
  7. Acts as a liaison and “good will” ambassador of the association with MCCA member, prospective members, other bar associations, legal service providers, and other key constituents. This will include assisting MCCA in the development of strategic partnerships, new member outreach, etc., which may require up to about 25% travel.
  8. Supervise at least one law fellow, volunteers and several external consultants to the association, including MCCA staff on a per project basis, or as requested by the President & CEO.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) required and must be in good standing.
  • Preferably six to eight years of experience as a practicing attorney and/or serving as counsel to 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organizations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing and conducting training, drafting written materials for training, and developing processes to streamline workflow.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects without much guidance.

Position: Class Action FlexTime Attorney - Early Case Evaluation
