Advanced Search Help

General rules for proper Advanced Search operation:

• Inside any of the form fields, enter one target search word or multiple words.
• Always separate the target search words by spaces.
• Search words less than two characters will not be used.
• Do not put any punctuation marks between the target words.
• Search results returned:

       Have High or Medium relevance when search words you input appear
       multiple times and/or higher up inside of the documents found.

Using "With all the words:"

• Advanced Search will retrieve documents containing each and every one of the words entered.
• This form will insert "AND" between the words you enter.
• The more words used here, the search will be narrowed.  Less results will be found.
• The less words used here, the search will be broadened.  More results will be found.
• When found in the Document Title or Summary words used here will be highlighted.

Using "With any of the words:" ( This is the opposite of the first option. )

• Advanced Search will retrieve documents containing any of the words entered.
• This form will insert "OR" between the words you enter.
• The more words used here, the search will be broadened.  More results will be found.
• The less words used here, the search will be narrowed.  Less results will be found.
• When found in the Document Title or Summary words used here will be highlighted.

Using "Without the words:"

• This option must be used in combination with the options above.
• Advanced Search will exclude the documents that contain any of the words entered.
• This form will insert "AND NOT" prior to the words you enter.
• The more words used here, the search will be narrowed.  Less results will be found.
• The less words used here, the search will be broadened.  More results will be found.

Using "With the exact phrase:"

• This option must be used by itself, without any of the options above.
• Advanced Search will find just the documents that contain the precise phrase of words entered.
• The more words used here, the search will be narrowed.  Less results will be found.
• The less words used here, the search will be broadened.  More results will be found.
